"Describe it like Hemingway . . . "

Sometimes people respond to the stories I send out every week with the most poignant, empathic comments. Art Todras wrote about “The Fragrance of a Rose” story: “This is why we have poetry.” And Pat, my husband, wrote: “Some things are just difficult to describe in words. Reminds me of a scene in a Nicholas Cage movie.” Here’s the scene from “City of Angels” with Seth (Cage) and Maggie (Meg Ryan):

Seth What's that like? What's it taste like? Describe it like Hemingway.

MaggieWell, it tastes like a pear. You don't know what a pear tastes like?

Seth I don't know what a pear tastes like to you.

Maggie Sweet, juicy, soft on your tongue, grainy like a sugary sand that dissolves in your mouth. How's that?

Seth It's perfect.
